Hugh Johnson(1882-1942) by Tomas D. McAvoy. 8 x 10 inch silver print.  McAvoy's stamp is on the back.   Johnson graduated from West Point in 1903.  He served with General Pershing in Mexico in 1916.  He helped develop the selective service act.  His rank was Brigadier General.  He administered the NRA and the WPA.  Also he worked for the Scripps-Howard newspapers

Sir Edward Denison Ross (1871-1940). 
Orientalist,  Linguist and Surgeon .  
5 3/4  x 8 inch    silver print  with rounded corners. 
The photograph is by Claude Harris, London.  
His blindstamp is on the lower right. 
Ross was the director of the School of Oriental studies 
and professor of Persian in London University.  
He was one of the world's foremost linguists 
specializing in languages of the Far East.  
He could read 49 languages and speak 30
